Basic Specs

Overall Rack Dimensions (Approximate)
22" Wide x 10.5" Front to Back x 24" Tall

Tub Dimensions
Approximately 6" Wide x 9" Front to Back x 6" Tall (Size Small Kritter Keeper)

Tub Capacity: 9 Size Small Kritter Keepers
A lot of people already use this size tub and I've found a place that sells them cheaper than I can get them for in wholesale, so we're not including them in the rack.

  • Need Kritter Keepers?
LLL Reptile is relatively close to the factory, so their price is actually lower than what I could buy them for in wholesale from a distributor.  Click HERE for appropriate tubs.  By the way, Ignore the listed dimensions - Size 'Small' is the appropriate tub.

A note from the busy breeder...buy a few extra tubs.
I buy a set of 12 for each rack, so that I always have a few clean tubs ready to use...great for emergency cleanings.

Versatility - Here are just a few common uses...

  • Gecko Nursery Unit
I typically keep two to four hatchling crested geckos in each tub.  The security of a small cage and ease of finding food seems to really help in the growth process with many types of reptiles.  As the geckos get larger, I reduce the number of geckos that I house in each tub. Eventually, I raise my holdbacks individually in these until they are four to five months old and 12-15 grams in weight.

With Gargoyle Geckos, I keep one animal per tub in order to prevent them from eating each other's tails. Gargoyles can be grown up in these tubs until they've outgrown their tail eating stage.

  • Bettas (aka Chinese Fighting Fish)
This rack has really caught on with the Betta crowd.  Makes a great display unit for housing multiple fish in one place.
  • Aquatic Show Display
Turtle and frog breeders LOVE this rack for shows.  The kritter keepers are tall enough that they can give the animal plenty of  water and still have a good view for customers.
  • Countertop Display Unit - PERFECT FOR PET STORES
Pet stores are using these as a countertop display unit for everything from Bettas, Geckos, Colubrid Snakes, Frogs, Scorpions and Tarantulas.

Pet Store Pointers

  • Security
We've designed this rack so that it can be viewed from the front or back.  If you situate the rack so that the back faces the customer, view will be completely unobstructed and tubs can only be opened from behind the counter.
  • No need to handle/disturb animals when they're sold.
Stores are finding that they can sell animals complete with kritter keeper.  Simply remove the tub, place the lid on it and hand it to the customer.  No need for animals to be handled by employees.
  • Room for Price Tags, Labels, etc.
When looking at the unit from the back, there is a nice sized lip where price tags and other labels can be placed above each tub.
  • Dry Erase Pricing
If you're not into making fancy price tags or that doesn't suit your application, you can use a dry erase marker to mark on the tubs.

We use dry erase markers for all kinds of stuff...just don't keep Sharpie markers in the vicinity of anything you use dry erase on.  Oh and if you do, alcohol-based hand sanitizer will take it off. Not that I would ever make such a mistake...OK, next.
  • Care Sheets Above
Another great idea is to place plastic brochure holders on top of the rack and provide care sheets for customers.  Care sheets always make a new herper feel more secure that they have the information needed to keep their new pet healthy.

Functionality

1/4" - High Impact Styrene Material
A quarter inch sounded thin and flimsy at first, but this stuff is seriously heavy duty. Unlike PVC or ABS plastics, this material is extremely strong and rigid, yet it's not brittle.  Clean holes can easily be drilled, without cracking, for mounting the rack to a wall or for stacking.
I have 48" python cages made with the 1/8" thick version of this material.  I've been using those cages for over five years with absolutely zero problems.

Light Weight + Break Down Design = Affordable Shipping
The Baby Arboreal Rack breaks down into five pieces (two sides and three shelves), which makes for very affordable shipping.
Shipping is only $14.95 to anywhere in the United States and Canada & only $9.95 for 3 or more racks.

Quality Aluminum & Stainless Hardware
The twelve assembly bolts used to put this rack together are made from steel.  The aluminum end caps make for a nice, finished look.  Once it's put together, this rack is rigid and sturdy.  There are only five pieces and twelve bolts, so assembly takes just a few minutes.

Kritter Keepers not included
Because many hobbyists already use them, we've decided not to include them.

I buy my Kritter Keepers
from LLL Reptile.
I buy a set of 12 for each rack, so that I can always have a few clean tubs ready to use.

Visibility
Clear tubs allow for close monitoring of hatchling geckos during their fragile first few weeks.  It's good to keep an eye out for bad sheds, so opaque containers are not an option for me.  The time saved by being able to walk by and check each animal without opening a cage is unbelievable.  Plus, if you save just one nice hatchling, this rack could very well pay for itself.

Ventilation
Ventilation was one of my biggest concerns with this rack.  Without enough ventilation, you get too much humidity and the cage becomes a breeding ground for fungus and bacteria.

With too much ventilation, the main problem with kritter keeper lids, water dries up quickly and animals end up with stuck sheds, which can be life threatening to hatchling geckos.  With this rack, ventilation was optimized to keep food and substrates from getting moldy, while still maintaining adequate humidity for the geckos.

No Lids
If you use Kritter Keeper style tubs, you know how great they are for visibility, but you also know what a pain the lids can be.  The lids are difficult to remove/replace, the little door isn't big enough and the lids have way too much ventilation, which causes the cage to dry out too fast.

Sliding tubs also mean that you don't have to worry about snapping the lid down on the feet or tails of geckos when putting the lid back on the container.

Reduced Injuries/Pinched Tails
Injuries and pinched tails were a big concern when designing these racks, as I don't have time to check for geckos hanging from the ceiling every time I access a tub.  Because of the texture of the styrene material, geckos cannot hang from the ceiling.  This greatly reduces the risk of injury when accessing a tub. It should also be mentioned that the gap between the tub and the rack is small enough that even a hatchling can't escape, but large enough that the tails of small geckos won't become injured.  After raising more than 1,000 geckos in these racks over the past few years, I've had zero injuries and only a few dropped tails due to pinching.

The rack system works really well. The geckos can not get stuck in the sliding area, nor can they climb to the top. The size of the critter keepers is a bit small, but works well for the first few months.
