Mocha & Cream Project
My original male was acquired from the
breeder who first introduced the Mocha & Cream crested gecko to the public
(Allen Repashy) in the summer of 2004.
I knew this project had potential, but because
I didn't have any females to pair up with him at the time, I essentially shelved
the project and kept the male by himself for nearly three years.
In early 2007, I decided to do something
different and pair him with three of my patternless neon orange females (didn't
have a mate for them at the time) in hopes of making a few cool creamsicles.
Instead, I came up with a number of red harlequins and pink-red & cream
pinstripes. Apparently the light tan color cooperates quite nicely with
red pigment because they're some of the nicest first-generation red harlequins
I've ever seen.
In any case, one thing I learned was that his
pattern was not only passed down to almost all of his offspring (even though
their mothers have no pattern), but that it was producing near full pinstripes.
Those geckos are now being used to create an entirely new project of their own
and you'll surely see them soon enough.
The females I've selected for the Mocha & Cream
project are all unrelated and are unusual in their own right, as they're also
tan with a pale cream colored pattern. However, with the exception of
female 1, these girls patterns just aren't as complete as the male's and as
such, they aren't nearly as intriguing to look at. With such a well
matched breeding group in terms of color and a male that we know passes on his
pattern to his offspring, I expect the first generation offspring to look just
as nice as he does. |
